I was born on 5th February 1959 in Penang, Malaysia. After obtaining my first degree, Bachelor of Arts Sociology and Anthropology, at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1983, I further my studies at University of Lancaster, United Kingdom to complete Master of Arts in Contemporary Sociology in 1987. In 2006, I got my Doctorate in Gender and Development Management from University of Lancaster, United Kingdom. During 1983 to 1985, I worked as a bank officer at Perwira Habib Bank. I joined Universiti Utara Malaysia in 1985 first as a tutor at Sekolah Pengajian Asasi and became lecturer at Sekolah Pengajian Asasi in 1988. While working as a lecturer, I was designated as Director of the Institut Kajian Darul Aman, Universiti Utara Malaysia in the year 2000. The University selected me as Associate Professorship in the year 2004. I have been working as Director of the Northern Corridor Research Centre (NCRC), Universiti Utara Malaysia since 2010. I have one hundred and thirty-four (134) publications to my credit and involved in seventy-one (71) research projects as project leader and principal researcher or co-researcher. At present, I am working on a research entitled ‘Socio-Electoral Forensic, Environment and Development 2017-2018’. Besides that, I was appointed as Focal Officer of University Community Transformation Centre (UCTC) of Universiti Utara Malaysia since 1st October 2015 and represent Universiti Utara Malaysia for Asia-Pacific University - Community Engagement Network (APUCEN). I am also one of the contributors for the module entitled “Leadership Training in University-Community Engagement” that engage all institutions of higher education such as Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Akademi Kepimpinan Pendidikan Tinggi (AKEPT), National Higher Education Research Institute (IPPTN) and Asia-Pacific University Community Engagement Network (APUCEN). My current thrust research areas are social impact assessment and qualitative analysis, gender and development studies, and socio-political and development studies.
