Overview

I am a Senior Lecturer, School of Education and Modern Languages, College of Arts and Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Sintok, Kedah, Malaysia. I am teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The undergraduate courses are Mathematics Teaching Methods, Issues in Mathematics Education, and Mathematics for Young Learners. The postgraduate courses are Research Methodology and Qualitative Research in Education. I had been involved in the field of Mathematics Education since 1982, as a mathematics teacher (1982-1986), as a mathematics education lecturer at teacher training colleges (1987-1988) and as a mathematics education lecturer at Universiti Utara Malaysia (1999 till now). I obtained a Ph.D in Mathematics Education from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom in 2006. My research interest include teaching and learning of mathematics , psychology of learning mathematics within both the primary and secondary schools, assessment in education, learning and instruction, and teacher education. I have received FRGS grants for research work in issues relating to literacy and numeracy, teacher education, learning and instruction, teachers’ competencies and standards, quality teaching, assessment in education, school-based assessment, and safe school. I have also been appointed as a university trainer for Constructive Alignment and Outcome-Based Education. I have also been appointed as a trainer in Certificate Programs for Teaching in Higher Institution and the university level, especially with regards to Teaching Methods and Assessment in OBE. I have also been appointed as an evaluator for accreditation purpose in Primary Mathematics Education programs at the National level. I have also been appointed as an evaluator for programs accreditation practices or purposes within the university.
